Powder Coating
Powder Coating is a protective layer that offers a resilient coating to materials that need protection from corrosion. Unlike many other coating processes, surface coating is a dry process, which means that it is solid when applied to the base material. The coatings come in variety of colours, chemical compounds and thicknesses.
Parts that are surface coated via electrostatic deposition (ESD) must be cured in a gas fired curing oven. Here the coating chemically reacts to the heat, resulting in high cross-link density. As the ESD coated part reaches the optimum curing temperature within the oven, the powder particles melt and flow together to form a continuous film over the part’s surface. The most common are batch style ovens, where one load at a time is placed into the oven and heated. For high volume, powder coating ovens are continuous, where the parts are carried through the oven on a conveyor. The parts which are coated within a fluidized bed are heated before the coating application stage. As the preheated part is immersed in the coating material, the powder particles melt and flow together upon contact with the part’s heated surface.
